2.Impressions – Then after inspecting, the impressions of your teeth will be taken so that they can be analyzed in a proper way to consider the proper treatment strategy.

3.Attaching the Braces – First some adhesive will be applied to Your teeth and then the brackets will be attached to them with the help of dental cement. This will then be cured with light until hardened. This will take a few seconds per tooth.

The arch wire will then be threaded between the brackets and then ligated with the assistance of metal or elastic ligatures.

4. Correction Phase – On every month visit, either the arch wire will be bent, shaped, tightened or changed according to the re-positioning of teeth or elastic forces will be applied to your teeth until they attain the desired position.

5. Removal of Braces – The brackets will then be removed after the completion of the treatment and further cleaning is done and retainers will be prescribed for a short period of time so that the teeth retain their position and You enjoy a Beautiful Smile!

Question 1. What does the dental brace do?

Answer. Dental braces are used for various cosmetic as well as the functional purposes of the teeth for example, underbite, overbite, crossbite, malocclusions, overcrowding, protruded teeth etc. They are also used for correcting the space or the gap between two teeth.

Question 2. How do I know if I am a candidate for braces?

Answer. Though a thorough check-up by an orthodontist will reveal that, but here are some pointers which if matched with your dental problems, then visit us for a proper dental check-up:

– If there is overcrowding in your denture.

– If your teeth appear too protruded outwards or drawn inwards.

– If the positioning of your teeth is not cosmetically pleasing.

– If there is more than normal gap between two teeth.

– If you are having some biting and speaking problems.

Question 3. What are the materials used in Bracing?

Answer.  1. Brackets– they are the metal, plastic or ceramic made rectangular blocks which are applied                        over the teeth, they act as anchors for the wires.

              2. Bonding material – Dental adhesive is used to attach and bond the brackets to the teeth.

              3. Arch wire – It’s a flexible wire which when comes in contact with body heat, turns into a stiffer one and maintains its shape while creating a constant amount of pressure on the tooth in the correct direction.

             4. Ligatures (Elastic or Metal) – These are tiny elastic or metal bands which hold the arch wire to the bracket to deliver the required forces.

Question 4. How do dental braces work?

Answer.  Brackets and the arch wire along with the ligatures, put pressure on the teeth so that the periodontal membrane stretches on one side and get compressed on another, giving the teeth the direction that they should move. This process is done slowly so that the teeth will move slowly without being damaged.

Question 5. What are the types or options that I can choose from?

Answer.  There are various types of braces to choose from:

  1. Metal Braces: In this type, the brackets are made up of metal and are the most conventional type of brackets; they are less expensive and more noticeable.

  2. Ceramic Braces: They are of the teeth color and serve the same purpose as the metal braces, they are less noticeable and are not that harsh on the gum lining as well.

  3. Ceramic Braces with Metal Slots: They are of the teeth color and serve the same purpose as the metal braces, they are less noticeable and are superior in comparison to the conventional ceramic braces owing to lesser amount of friction between the wire and the brackets.

  4. Self Ligating Braces: They can either be metal or ceramic. They are even superior to the above categories as they reduce the treatment time.

  5. Lingual Braces: They are the most expensive amongst all the variants of braces and they require a specialized technique as well, they are attached on the inside or the back of the teeth – making them invisible. Hence they are also known as invisible braces.

  6. Clear Aligners/Invisalign: These are the most advanced and the expensive ones, they are clear removable braces. They are hardly visible and they need to be changed every 2-5 weeks, but they are not for complex cases, they are used if some correction like tilting or rotation is required. They have to be removed to eat, brush and floss.

Question 6. How much time does the whole procedure take?

Answer. Depending upon the severity of the case, the time period varies between 6 months to 3 years.
