Root Canal Treatment Procedure is as follows:

  • The infected pulp and nerve are curated after numbing the area.

  • The  whole canal is cleaned.

  • Temporary filling is done to prevent the tooth from further infection (If required)

  • The Gutta percha and the dental cement is filled in the canal.

  • Crowning is done.

Question 1. What is Root Canal Treatment or RCT?

Answer. It’s a tooth saving procedure in which the nerve and pulp are removed and the inside of the tooth is cleaned and then sealed with a dental cement. A crown or bridge are likely to be applied after that.

Question 2. How do You Know that You need an RCT?

Answer. Though the dentist will be the one who will decide whether you need RCT or not but here are some symptoms from which you can relate to:

  • Severe tooth pain, especially while handling the extreme temperatures like ice-creams and hot beverages.

  • Tender and painful while chewing.

  • Swelling, pain and redness around the tooth.

  • Tooth pain increases while lying down.

  • Pain radiating towards head or ear.

Question 3. What If Treatment Is Delayed ?

Answer. The tissues around the tooth can also become infected and an abscess may form. If the treatment is further delayed then the infection can spread to the other teeth as well, and in the long run,Saving the tooth will not be possible.

Question 4. Is there any Functional Deficits in the tooth after RCT ?

Answer. No, There are NOT !The tooth may feel a bit sensitive for a few days but after that, the tooth will be as functional as a healthy tooth because during RCT, only the nerves are removed and the only function that the nerve performs in a fully developed tooth is sensitivity, so no functional deficit will be there. So You can have Your favorite ice-cream and Your hot coffee without worrying about the tingling sensation in Your teeth.

Question 5. Any After Care needed?

Answer. Just Don’t forget Brushing and Flossing !!
